Rod,

A funny thing about audits: Every politician is for them until one targets them.

State Auditor Tim Keller has made a lot of headlines since taking office this past January.  His office is required by law to lookout for taxpayer dollars in nearly every agency and government entity across the state.

And when he finds evidence of waste, fraud or abuse he is required by law to do something about it.

NMSA 12-6-6: "Immediately upon discovery of any violation of a criminal statute in connection with The Audit Act financial affairs, the state auditor shall report the violation to the proper prosecuting officer..."

So far, Tim Keller's audits have resulted in the indictment of a county manager for using county credit cards to buy guns, ammo and baseball tickets and raised serious questions about the relationship between Mayor Berry's administration and the Taser company that sold Albuquerque millions of dollars in cameras and weapons. Each time, the governor and Republican Party were pretty much silent.

But good government shouldn't be partisan - and it wasn't until an investigation started circling the governor's own team.

When a whistleblower claimed that one of the governor's highest appointed officials may have used her position to help a former client avoid paying taxes due, they went into overdrive attacking the Auditor - not the alleged offenders.

The governor told the Santa Fe New Mexican that the investigation was “nothing more than a media stunt" and launched into attacks the paper said "included a couple of statements that aren’t literally true."  They even got the Albuquerque Journal to tie him to Hillary Clinton's email (non)scandal and editorialize against Keller for emailing supporters asking for help.

New Mexico needs a good government champion, and we have one in Tim Keller.  He's taking lots of heat from Republicans trying to distract the public and the press from the story inside their own administration.

Countering the Republican spin machine isn't easy, but we've done it before.

Will you help us by chipping in $3 to help us get this thank you message to Tim Keller out to New Mexico?

thank you tim keller (enable images to see)

Every $3 contribution puts this message in front of 300 Facebook users across New Mexico and we need to reach a lot to counter the spin.

Thanks,

pat sig
