UNM Faculty oppose political influence in education, health care policy

FACULTY PETITION:

UNM Faculty, stand up for your students their reproductive health. Their lives, even the future of ground-breaking scientific research that saves lives are at risk.

According to the the ABQ Journal, 25 New Mexico state legislators wrote a letter inserting their own personal beliefs about abortion on UNM and pressuring the UNM regents to play politics with our education and health care by denying our community all aspects of reproductive health care.

These legislators are attacking and harassing an academic institution that brings great pride, quality education, and healthcare to the people of our great state.

Stand with UNM students, faculty, and the community to reject these attacks on UNM's medical professionals, faculty and students. Sign the petition to urge the UNM regents to call out the tactics of these legislators for what they are: inserting political agendas where they don't belong.

Dear Regents:

As a Faculty member, I stand against the attempt by a small group of state legislators to dictate UNM's academic policies relating to health care for women.

25 New Mexico legislators have asked the Board of Regents to limit women's health education to exclude discussion or education inconsistent with their personal political beliefs.

I urge the UNM Board of Regents to reject legislators' attempts to insert their personal political agendas into the quality education and services that UNM provides.
