Secretary of State Dianna Duran is facing 64 charges relating to embezzlement, tampering with public records and violating the election laws she swore to enforce.

In New Mexico, only the House of Representatives is empowered to begin proceedings to remove a statewide elected official from office.

House Democratic leaders say they will begin that process and other legislators are asking for constituent input on their decision.
